Easter Symbols in a Can

Over a decade ago, the women’s group at my church assembled what we called “Easter Cans”.  A not-so-beautiful name for a very beautiful activity to celebrate Easter. Inside the can, we placed symbols to remind us of Easter along with scriptures explaining Holy Week. This was before Pinterest so I have no idea where we found the idea … maybe on a Yahoo Group.  We send blessings to the thoughtful and creative woman who shared the idea!

This is from my friend Sandy’s Facebook post from March 27, 2018:  It was 2005 that I was given this Easter Tin. Every year since then we have taken out the contents one-by-one as we have remembered the final week of Christ’s life. It is one of our most meaningful family traditions. Last night, after the ritual, my 16-year-old son asked if he could have the tin when he had a family of his own.   Simple, meaningful family traditions for the win! I’ve recreated the Easter Cans with a beautiful description of the symbols along with scripture passages.  You can purchase below:

Here’s what you need:

1 unused gallon-size paint can (Lowe’s or Amazon)
Prints (4×6 )
Palm leaf (from an old silk plant)
Bread and a small plastic cup (dry croutons)
Wash towel
Coins/bag (foreign coins)
Rope
Soap
Wooden Cross
Little cardboard that says “King of the Jews”
Nail (Lowe’s 19c)
A piece of linen cloth
Stone (Dollar Tree or backyard)
Spices (I had an empty spice jar)

You will need to print the 4×6 photos. I find it’s cheaper to print at Walmart, CVS or Costco than to buy ink!  I chose to use a ring to hold these together.

I plan to assemble a few of these to give as gifts this year.  They will be a treasured gift for years to come.
